This morning I sat in a small stuffy court room in Jerusalem.I had the honor of sharing the limited space and air with some of Israel's more prominent and resolute soldiers in the war for the Jewish People and the Land of Israel today including Prof. Auman, our latest Nobel laureate. We were there to support the latest enemy of the State of Israel, Ms. Nadia Matar, founder of "Women in Green"

Former extreme Left "Peace Now" leader, Mr. Mazuz, the government attorney general,indicted her for insulting a public official. It happened last summer at the height of the mass expulsion of eight thousand Jews and the destruction of twenty five flourishing communities and delivering them to the terrorist gangs. Mr. Yonatan Bassi, volunteered to be Sharon's point man in the civil and psychological war against the thousands of families about to be expelled. He was to be the one to convimce them through with an arsenal of carrots and sticks, to leave their homes with out a protest. Bassi became one of the symbols of the expulsion. Ms. Matar sent him a letter explaining to him that his role was similiar to the Judenraat of the Ghettos in Nazi occupied Europe. It was further pointed out that Mr. Bassi wears a kipa and is thus identified with the orthodox zionist community in Israel.This was a great if not requesit "qualification" for the hrole of expeller of the mostly orthodox communities. Now it could be claimed that one of "their own was doing the dirty work because he realized the importance of the task...Mr. Sheftel reminded the court that when theh Rosenberg couple were tried andn executed in the US for spying, the judge andn jury were Jewish. There was no room for accusations of anti semetism. ...

Nadia was cool and confident in the face of her accusors, certain of her way and of the future. Her lawyer, Mr. Sheftel made some interesting and revealing points:

Just a few days ago another public servant, the Chief of Staff, General Chalutz was the object of a "Peace Now" demonstration in front of his residence in which he was called a murderer - by Ms. Olmert our prime minister's daughter! She has not been charged yet with insulting a public official. A few years ago, a prominent spiritual leader called for the death of a minister in the government. No charges.In this case . It seems that the attorney's office was afraid of the public uproar that would follow the arrest of such a popular, revered figure. So either the govt. does not want to or is afraid but in Nadia's case they want to very much and are not afraid of civil unrest in its wake. Mr. Sheftel reminded the court that for years both the first president of Israel, Mr. Chaim Weizman and its first prime minister, Ben Gurion were known to label Ze'ev Jabotinsky and Menachem Begin as Hitlerites and Fascists. Ben Gurion refered to Jabotinsky always as Vladmir Hitler. So much for invoking certain words when criticizing a public official .The famous leftist artist Yigal Tomerkin was not tried when he said that he understood the Nazis when he saw ultra orthodox Jews..

It was pathetic to see the young team of state prosecutors trying to babble some nonsense about the rule of law and civilized debate Young upstarts trying to impress their bosses and sweating while they embarass themselves and their entire Jewish heritage in a Jewish courtroom So we are left with Nadia, public enemy of the Jewish people and the Jewish state... and we owe her an awful lot.
